My name is Katie Soudry and I personally discovered Pilates in 1999 after suffering with back pain for many years due to a horse-riding accident as well as shoulder pain due to a pot-holing accident. I finally found an osteopath who managed to get to the root of the problems but I then continued to experience muscular tension and pain due to poor movement patterns and posture as a result of the previous injuries.
This is when I turned to Pilates and despite my injuries it made such a difference to my physical condition and my confidence that I decided I wanted others to experience the same thing and this is when I decided to train to become a teacher. There were many quick fix teaching courses out there but I wanted to ensure that I received intensive, quality and highly recognised training. So after much research I chose Body Control Pilates in London.

Later in life, after experiencing lifelong problems, I went on to be diagnosed with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, a complex genetic connective tissue disorder. Little did I know that my Pilates practice throughout the years was the best thing that I could have been doing to support that condition!

I also have personally suffered with anxiety as have so many people within our modern, stressful lifestyles. Yoga has been incredibly healing and helps me manage those symptoms in a far better way. It's a lifelong, supportive practice that I highly recommend to everybody to incorporate in to their lives in the way people do in it's birthplace of India where you will see people meditating or practising yoga almost everywhere in public spaces! It's just such a normal part of their lives.
Due to my health I have had to adapt my activities over the years and have gone from a very yang, sporty lifestyle to more balanced, restorative activities. Both Pilates & Yoga can be adapted to be both Yang or Yin or a healthy combination of both and I enjoy adapting them to suit my clients needs.
